OVERVIEW

2010 Violence Prevention Grants

Since the scope of violence prevention is vast, CHI has developed the Mission and Ministry Fund Grant component of the campaign to include a year-long shared planning effort and a series of Mission and Ministry Fund Violence Prevention Grants. This planning effort includes working with colleagues across CHI and external experts to gain a greater understanding of effective violence prevention initiatives. Specific activities include:

  • Participation in an in-person education session in February or March 2010. Costs for this meeting will be paid by the CHI national office.
  • On-going participation in a work group of CHI colleagues to develop specific criteria for Mission and Ministry Fund Violence Prevention grants, gain greater understanding of community based violence prevention efforts and share knowledge and experience. Networking will include conference calls, reviewing educational materials and Live Meeting educational sessions. Costs associated with this work group will be paid by the CHI national office.
  • Working with your local community to identify violence prevention priorities
  • Developing a full application for a Mission and Ministry Fund Violence Prevention Grant for your organization/congregation.

Violence prevention grant funds may be requested to cover the costs of community-based planning, conducting community meetings, assessing community violence related assets and needs; continuing specific community-based violence prevention efforts and related activities. Since this is a unique type of grant, staff and applicants will work together to determine specific criteria through the notice of intent process.

In order to apply for a Mission and Ministry Fund Violence Prevention Grant, applicants must agree to participate in an in-person education session in February or March 2010. Costs for this meeting will be paid by the Catholic Health Initiatives national office. Also, applicants must agree to ongoing participation in a work group of Catholic Health Initiatives colleagues to develop specific criteria for Mission and Ministry Fund Violence Prevention grants, gain greater understanding of community based violence prevention efforts and share knowledge and experience. Networking will include conference calls, reviewing educational materials and Live Meeting educational sessions.

Then you will complete and submit a Violence Prevention Grant Notice of Intent. This form is intended to assist you in evaluating your organization's vision of violence prevention activities in your community.

Once the Notice of Intent has been approved, a Violence Prevention Grant Application will be sent to the grant contact.

Final grant applications will be due on or prior to March 1, 2010.
