Clinical Trials

The Center for Clinical Trials coordinates clinical trials across Catholic Health Initiatives, making leading-edge treatments available in the communities we serve.

The center’s first trials network is for oncology trials.  An estimated 85% of U.S. cancer patients are diagnosed at their local hospitals, but many must leave their communities to receive the most advanced treatment. CHI’s Oncology Trials Network seeks to change this by providing patients with access to clinical trials in their communities.

Patients at about a dozen CHI hospitals have participated in several oncology clinical trials, benefiting from leading-edge research not available elsewhere. CHI hospitals and their patients have participated in trials for new treatments for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Six CHI hospitals also participate in the National Cancer Institute's National Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP)

CHI plans to extend its clinical trials model beyond cancer care to other service lines.
