Evidence-based Practices

At Catholic Health Initiatives, evidence-based practice means integrating the best, most current research evidence and clinical expertise with patient and family values and preferences to guide health care decisions for each unique patient.

CHI’s specific goals for integrating evidence-based practices into its care include:

  • 85% or more of all care delivered across CHI will conform to CHI-approved evidence-based practices.
  • CHI’s scores on patient experience surveys will be in the top 10% in the nation.
  • CHI patients will experience no serious adverse events or certain hospital-acquired conditions while in our care.
  • Improvement in the efficiency of care delivery as a result of implementing evidence-based practices.

CHI has made progress toward these goals by implementing evidence-based practices to improve patient experiences and outcomes in these areas:

  • Catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention
  • Health care-associated infection prevention
  • Heart failure treatment
  • Prevention of surgical errors
  • Falls prevention
  • Pain management
  • Pressure ulcer prevention
  • Deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism prevention
  • Central line-associated blood stream infection prevention
